Steve Krausz
With over 30 years of venture capital experience, Steve (steve.k@usvp.com) has led or co-led the firm’s investments in Trusteer (acquired by IBM), Guidewire Software (IPO), Xylan (IPO), Epic Design (IPO), Check Point Software (IPO), Imperva (IPO), New Focus (IPO), Savings.com (acquired by Cox Target Media), Vontu (acquired by Symantec), Sierra Monolithics (acquired by Semtech), Verity (IPO), Occam Networks (acquired by Calix), CipherTrust (acquired by Secure Computing), Accelerated Networks (IPO), Parametric Technology (Rasna), NetDynamics (acquired by SUN), Stratacom (IPO), Harmonic Lightwaves (IPO), Elantec (IPO), CenterView Software (acquired by Sybase), Applied Digital Access (IPO) and Micro Linear (IPO). Steve currently serves on the boards of Active-Semi, Appthority, Box (NYSE: BOX), Cato Networks, Electric Cloud, Exablox, Inside Sales (observer), Kaiam, Megapath, Prevoty, Quantifind, Quixey, Smartling, Xirrus and ZEFR.
The father of two, Steve is the former executive board member and Treasurer of the National Venture Capital Association. Steve also serves on the boards of the WAVC, the World Affairs Council, the Stanford Bay Area Venture Capital Group and DAPER Investment Fund. An avid skier, Steve enjoys travel with his family. When time permits, his reading interests include world history, especially the Middle East and Asia. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Stanford Business School, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar.
Marc van den Berg
Marc van den Berg joined Technology Partners in 2012. He focuses on Cleantech, investing in Energy Technology, Water Technology, and Advanced Materials opportunities.
Marc’s investing career began early last decade where he was most recently a Managing Director at Vantage Point Capital from 2006-2012. Prior to his venture capital career Marc spent 25 years in executive leadership positions at venture backed startups in Silicon Valley that included stints in high energy Excimer lasers, advanced oxidation water purification, semiconductor capital equipment and electronic materials. Marc was GM/VP at Advanced Materials Company, ATMI from 2001-2005 where he ran a global business in the electronic materials marketplace. From 1995 to 2002 Marc was VP of Engineering at Microbar Inc., a semiconductor lithography chemical company with a rich portfolio of advanced water treatment and advanced electroplating equipment products. In the early 1990s Marc joined garage start-up Purus Inc., an advanced oxidation water purification company in the heart of Silicon Valley as Director of Engineering and a member of the executive management team. During the decade of the ’80s Marc spent his early engineering career with XMR Inc., developing UV laser systems for use in the semiconductor, military, medical and automotive fields.
Marc enjoys assisting entrepreneurs in their quests to grow exciting new companies.
Marc is a graduate of Santa Clara University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and is active at SCU as a director in the Engineering School and the Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in SCU’s business school.
Magnus Ryde
Magnus Ryde formerly served as CEO of DayStar Technologies of Milpitas, CA and Intematix Corporation of Fremont, CA; President of TSMC North America, he also held senior executive positions at KLA-Tencor, the world’s leading supplier of process control and yield management solutions for the semiconductor industry. He currently serves on the BoD of GLO AB, QuNano AB and Sol Voltaics AB of Sweden. He is a graduate of Linköping University of Sweden and he received his MS of Industrial Engineering and Executive MBA degrees from Stanford University.
Phil Anthony
Phil Anthony is currently an Executive in Residence at Storm Ventures. He was the President of the Amplification Products Group of JDS Uniphase, responsible for its optical amplifier, passive optical component, and integrated module businesses. During the telecommunications infrastructure boom, he coordinated business functions to achieve a growth in revenues that accelerated to >50% Q/Q. In the ensuing revenue collapse, he managed the orderly restructuring of 14 businesses bought by JDS Uniphase while maintaining cash-flow neutral operations. He emphasized structured processes throughout the merged operations to increase product dependability and customer responsiveness. His organizations enhanced margins through innovative product platforms and revised production systems; they retained as much margin as possible by efficiently transferring production to a mirrored organization in China. He joined JDS Uniphase in 2000 when it acquired E-TEK Dynamics, where he was the VP of Engineering for two years.
Prior to E-TEK, Dr. Anthony was the Director of the Passive Devices and Integrated Modules Organization of Lucent Technologies. During 20 years at AT&T Bell Laboratories and Lucent, Phil helped develop the technological foundations for a number of photonic businesses, including lasers, DWDM components, optical interconnects, photonic switching, integrated optics, and optoelectronic packaging.
He served as the President of the IEEE Photonics Society (formerly LEOS) in 2001 and in various capacities on its Board of Governors since 1994. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, was awarded a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Illinois, and graduated with a B.S. in Physics from the University of Dayton.
Bardia Pezeshki
Dr. Bardia Pezeshki was previously the main founder of Santur Corporation (2000-2008), and acting as the President, Director, VP of Engineering, and Chief Technology Officer of the company at various times he developed the key ideas and managed their transition to manufacturing. These included the tunable laser that dominated the transition of long haul and metro networks from fixed wavelength lasers to tunable, and more recently the parallel transceiver that now leads the world in 100Gb/s Ethernet.
Prior to Santur, Dr Pezeshki managed the Development group at SDL (now part of JDS Uniphase) and a similar group at IBM Research in Yorktown Heights. He obtained his Ph.D. from Stanford University and has approximately 30 patents and 100 peer reviewed publications and presentations.
John Heanue
Dr. Heanue has managed the development of numerous innovative optical devices that span the industry, from very long wavelength laser modules using quantum cascade sources, to optical storage components. His background includes senior positions at Block Engineering, Redshift Systems, Santur Corporation, Xros / Nortel Networks, Quinta/Seagate, and Optitek. Dr Heanue received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in Applied Physics developing holographic storage technology.
