Hardware Engineer (Entry-Level)

Minimum Requirements

RF/Fiberoptic Transceiver Engineer
Department: Research and Development
About the Position
Kaiam is looking for an RF/Fiberoptic Transceiver Engineer with a proven record of industry achievement. In this role you will be responsible for high frequency design of packages and electronics for fiber optic transceivers. The ideal candidate would span the range from initial development of concepts to validation, qualification, and transfer to manufacturing. In addition to design of high speed ceramics, feed-throughs, and electrical circuits, the candidate should be able to develop test procedures and configure instrumentation and test stations. Qualified individuals should be familiar with fiber optic packaging, transceiver electronics, and typical firmware protocols. Intimate understanding of analog and digital RF circuits and modeling and layout tools such as, ADS, HFSS, and PADs is required.As a member of the Kaiam’s R&D team, you will contribute to a variety of short- and long-term efforts across various projects and in a number of technical areas. In this regard it will be important to be able to mix responsiveness to short term needs with the ability to keep up a level of effort on longer-term projects.
Minimum Requirements
- MS and or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or related field and at least 10 years experience
- Familiarity with all aspects of optical transceiver design and testing
- Expert at analog and digital circuit design, including micro-controllers and associated firmware
- Deep understanding of transceiver metrics, such as BER, dispersion penalty, and eye margin
- Familiarity with software design, modeling, and layout tools such as HFSS, ADS, Spice, or PADS

Sr. Automation Engineer

About the Position
Kaiam is looking for an automation Engineer with a proven record of industry achievement. In this role you will help specify, purchase, design and build automated tools a part of a manufacturing line for fiber optic products from the R&D proto-type lab. The job is based in Newark, California.The qualified individuals should be intimately familiar with assembly processes such as pick and place, wire bonding, laser welding and single mode fiber optic packaging. In addition the individual should have exposure to DC and RF electro-optical testing and experience linking test data with assembly processes.
A deep understanding of engineering, design and modification of automated tools in an operational environment is essential, including statistical process control for maintaining quality and optimizing yield and effective manufacturing execution systems to streamline production. Experience with component qualification is also important, including Telcordia guidelines and MIL-Spec procedures.
Minimum Requirements
- BS Degree and 7 years of experience in automation either in engineering or operations
- Familiarity with fiber optic processes and packaging equipment
- Deep understanding of automated processes and tools, including both hardware and software
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including documentation and design review skills

Sr. Optical Transceiver Development Engineer
Department: Product Development
About the Position
The Senior Optical Transceiver Development Engineer will take a leadership role in new product development aimed at data rates of 25Gb/s and higher. The engineer will provide RF and optical design, modeling, and test support for multiple projects and must be hands-on with proven ability to take products from design into production.Desired skills include:
- Knowledge of RF design. Experience with 25Gb/s development preferred
- Knowledge of semiconductor physics and optoelectronic devices
- Experience with circuit analysis and modeling tools (e.g. ADS and HFSS)
- Lab experience with high-speed testing, debugging, and device characterization
- Understanding of fiber optic 1310 and 1550 nm systems including CWDM and DWDM networks, advanced modulation formats, and industry standards
- Ability to work with electrical, mechanical, and process engineering teams to implement product designs
- Understanding of new product introduction and qualification processes
Minimum qualifications:
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar field
- Minimum 5 years of experience with optical component or analog/digital circuit development for the telecommunications and/or datacom industries
- Minimum 3 years of experience with optical transceiver design
- Minimum 3 years of experience with high speed testing and product characterization

Sr. Process Development Engineer

In this role you will develop processes and help specify and design tools to bring leading edge fiber coupled PLC based products into production.The qualified individuals should be intimately familiar with assembly processes such as die and wire bonding, laser welding and single mode fiber optic packaging. In addition the individual should have experience with active visual and optical output based alignment and linking test data with assembly processes.
A deep understanding of engineering and manufacturing of fiber-optic components is essential, including statistical process control for maintaining quality and optimizing yield and effective manufacturing execution systems to streamline production. Experience with component qualification is also important, including Telcordia guidelines and MIL-Spec procedures. The job is based in Newark, California.
