OVER 100 JOBS CREATED IN SCOTLAND BY U.S. BASED KAIAM CORPORATION

Optical Components Company Specializing in Photonic Integrated Circuits to Build a New Production Facility in Livingston

LIVINGSTON, SCOTLAND, UK — April 6, 2014 — A U.S. based optical components company, Kaiam Corporation, will secure 103 jobs in Livingston, First Minister Alex Salmond has announced.

Kaiam Corporation, headquartered in California, will relocate production facilities to Scotland from China and expand its existing Livingston site.

The project is being supported by an RSA grant of £850,000 from Scottish Enterprise.

The First Minister is in New York for Scotland Week. The programme includes business and trade meetings designed to boost investment and employment in Scotland.

Speaking from New York, Mr Salmond said: “The most recent Ernst and Young survey revealed Scotland once again as a top destination in the UK for foreign direct investment, outperforming every other part of the UK outside of London in generating employment from foreign direct investment.

“Today’s announcement is proof that these figures are continuing to rise and I am delighted that Kaiam has decided to further invest in Scotland. Kaiam clearly has global ambitions and we stand ready to assist with these plans.

“In Scotland, there are at least 12 universities with over 400 researchers engaged in optoelectronics research. This investment will undoubtedly boost the Livingston area and enhance Scotland’s optoelectronics industry. We are keen to support job growth and investment in this sector, an area where Scotland has been historically strong and will continue to strengthen.”

Minister for External Affairs Humza Yousaf will meet representatives from Kaiam Corporation as part of an upcoming trip to the U.S.
