KAREN LIU JOINS KAIAM AS VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING

Former Ovum Analyst to Lead Marketing Efforts for Growing Optical Components Company

NEWARK, CA — May 12, 2014 — Kaiam Corporation, a leader in hybrid Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) technology, today announced that Dr. Karen Liu has joined the company as Vice President of Marketing, responsible for the product roadmap and expansion of the product portfolio using the proprietary MEMS-based integrated optical circuit platform.

“We are extremely pleased to have Karen joining our team,” said Dr. Bardia Pezeshki, President and Chief Executive Officer of Kaiam. “Her remarkable insight, and keen awareness of the market for optical components will be invaluable as we apply our MEMS-based integration to other markets that need complex optical functions in a high density and low cost format.”

Most recently Dr. Liu was Principle Analyst of Components Research at Ovum. In this role, she was responsible for market analysis of new telecoms technologies including photonic integrated circuits.

Prior to joining Ovum, Dr. Liu architected DWDM networking products at Tellabs and IBM. The experience gave her an appreciation for the interaction between enabling component technology and advances in networks and systems architecture. Karen received a Ph.D. in applied physics from Stanford University in the field of fiber optics, and a BSE in mechanical engineering from Princeton University.

“I am very excited to be joining Kaiam at this period in the company’s growth and transformation,” said Dr. Liu. “It is clear that the Kaiam platform with MEMS and PLCs is already showing substantial differentiation in performance and cost compared to traditional technologies for 40Gb/s and 100Gb/s data center applications. This is a broad optical integration solution that can bring much-needed improvements across all the network hotspots from long-haul to access to datacenter.”
